Chittoor
district is located in the extreme south of Andhra Pradesh, between 12°37'
- 14°8' north latitudes and 78°3' - 79°55' east longitudes.
It is surrounded by Anantapur and Cuddapah districts on the north, by
Nellore and Chengai-Anna districts of Tamilnadu on the east, by North Arcot
Ambedkar and Dharmapuri district of Tamilnadu on the south and by Kolar
District of Karnataka on the west. The district is spread over 15152 Sq.
Kms. As per 2001 census the population of Chittoor district is 37.35 lakhs.
The various Industries of Chittoor district generating employment for the
people are sugar, ceramics, textile, railway wagon workshop,alcohol, moped,
brass and copper. The popular handicrafts of the region are wooden crafts,
kalamkari and bell metal and stone crafts. The forests of the region help
the nation to earn foreign currency by exporting teak and red sandalwood.
The other by-products of the forest are honey, tamarind, and many Ayurvedic
plants, which earn revenues for the state. The district of Chittoor is well
connected to the various places of the state by rail and road. The
headquarters of Chittoor district is at Tirupati which is the nearest
airport. Water is supplied to the various places of the district by
Galeru-Nagari-Sujala Sravanthi Project, Aarani Project, Peddheru Reservoir,
Bugga dam on Kusastathi, Mallimadugu on Racha canal and Kalinga canal. The
district receives electricity from the Thunga Bhadra Hydro Electric Project.
¤ Major Tourist Attractions
of ChittoorTirupati Temple - Tirupati temple is
the most visited and richest temple of India. Tirupati is situated at the
Chittoor district and only 67 km from the Chittoor city. It is the most
revered Vaishnavite shrine of Lord Venkateswara. Not only due to the one of
the most famous Shrines, while also due to the marvelous natural beauty,
Tirupati is most visited tourist destination of Andhra Pradesh.
Akasaganga
- Akasaganga as it is called is an apere stream that is said to
flow from the feet of the deity is considered sacred. Holly water comes out
as natural stream between rocks. It's located about 3km north of the main
temple. The water from here is used for the rituals in the temple.
Talakona
- Talakona Waterfalls is 40 km from Tirupati. This Waterfall is
considered as the entrance to the hills of Tirumala on which Lord
Venkateswara is located. This 270 ft Cascade is a perennial one and famous
for its medicinal effects.
Sila Thoranam - Sila
Thoranam is a naturally formed arch of rock, Situated on Tirumala Hills.
This natural rock formation is one of nature's wonders and only one of its
kinds in Asia. The likes of which can be found in only two other places in
the world-The Rainbow arch at Utah in USA and Cut Through in UK. The Sila
Thoranam arch is believed to be 1500 million years old and formed by
weathering and wind erosion. The length of the arch is 25ft with a height of
10ft.

in Chittoor. Most of the lodges are situated near the city bus stand. There
are some guesthouses, which provide basic facilities and a serene
